Governing Documents

In this section, you will find the documents that govern the running of the JCR, including the JCR's objects, its processes and its beliefs and values. Everything the JCR says, believes and does is rooted in these documents.

The Constitution

The Constitution is the founding document of the JCR. It details the JCR's objects and objectives and the executive committees and officers, as well as safeguards the rights of the members, both as individuals and as a body. It sets out the broad scope for the activities and procedures of the JCR.

The Standing Orders

The Standing Orders are instruments that govern procedure in the JCR. They establish non-executive committees and officers, set out regulations for the accountable spending of money, provide a framework for our world-famous General Meetings and our elections. They define in quite some detail specific processes for the JCR.

The Standing Policy

Standing Policy is a set of beliefs that the JCR has adopted and represents to the relevant bodies. In some cases, these deal with Balliol issues, others Oxford-wide issues, and other national or international issues. All policy is reviewed every three years, though new policy can be added at any time.
