Oxford’s application process can seem like one of the most daunting things about the university, but we’re here to make your life a little easier. Here’s our 4-step guide to applying to Oxford..........

  1. Complete your UCAS application form as normal
This will have to be done by 15th October, which is much earlier than the general UCAS deadline. This may seem like a bit of a pain at the time, but it does mean that everyone else is stressing over theirs in December, you’ll be sorted!
  2. Obtain an Oxford Application Form
The Oxford application form is a form which is sent in addition to the UCAS form, which lets the university know college preference and any personal circumstances. They are usually posted to schools/sixth form colleges/FE colleges a long time before the deadline, but if your school doesn’t have them, simply contact the university admissions office and they’ll send you one. Just make sure that you get one well in advance of the deadline:
Colleges Admissions Office, Wellington Square, Oxford OX1 2JD
    Tel: +44 (0)1865 288000, fax: +44 (0)1865 280125, email: undergraduate.admissions@admin.ox.ac.uk
Or visit the admissions website, http://www.admissions.ox.ac.uk/apply/
  3. Fill it in!
Filling in the additional Oxford Application form isn’t as complicated as it may sound. The form comes with some handy detailed instructions. Just a few things to remember:
    • The college code (BLL for Balliol) can be found on the accompanying info sheet
    • The ‘further details’ section on the first page is important. Check the infor sheet to see if your subject requires further info. For example, modern language applicants must specify the two languages they wish to study in the two ‘further details’ boxes and prospective classics students must specify the classics course that they wish to be considered for.
    • There is an administration fee of £10/25Euros/$20. Details of payment will be included in the info sheet.
    • The deadline for EU and home students is 15th October and for overseas students, its 20th September
  4. See if you qualify for the access scheme
The Oxford Access Scheme aims to encourage applications from inner city areas, state schools, ethnic minorities and first generation university applicants. If you think you may come into these categories, visit the website at:
    www.oxford-access.org.uk
Where you can download an additional form (to be sent with the Oxford application form, with the same deadline) on which you can place additional information about your school (its financial situation, geographic location, results) and about yourself and personal circumstances which may affect your application.
