Oxford university’s line on Finance is that no-one should
ever have to leave due to financial reasons. Basically: Once
you’re in, they want to keep you in. To this end, there are
vast arrays of bursaries and grants that are available to those in need.
Although Oxford may seem to be expensive in terms of rent/food
in town, it is actually more financially viable than most
Universitites due to the extensive, generous Bursary Schemes such as:
Oxford Opportunity Bursary - Everyone is automatically assessed
for this grant on a sliding scale - most people get something.
Balliol Bursaries
Many other grants
Additionally - Balliol Hall (Lunch/Dinner) and the JCR Pantry
(Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner) are incredibly cheap - three meals a day
for £5-7. You will seldom need to purchase books due to
Balliol’s incredibly well-stocked library, and the
University itself has thousands more.
So overall: Finance should never deter anyone from applying!
