In the event of a fire, breaking the glass at a Fire
Call Point will both summon the Fire Brigade and signal
an evacuation.
If the security or emergency services are
summoned to College then immediately after calling them
call the Lodge to inform them of the situation.
How it Works
A telephone point and receiver are supplied to every bedroom in College.
There is a compulsory charge of £10 per annum charged with
the first battels bill of the academic year. Calls between
University extensions are free-of-charge; other out-going
calls are made via use of any telephone charge card.
Internal Calls
Internal calls to other phones on the University network
are free of charge. Just dial the extension number without
any prefix (2xxxx, 3xxxx, 7xxxx, 8xxxx). Staff and senior
members' telephone numbers can be looked up on the Email
and Telephone Search web page. Student telephone numbers
are not generally published to protect individuals' privacy
and to prevent potential harassment.
Incoming Calls
The telephone number for callers outside the University is
01865 280000 (charged at national
rates). This will be answered by an auto-attendant which will
prompt the caller for your extension number.
Freephone Calls
You can call any 0800 number free of charge. This is also
the route to getting outgoing calls using telephone charge cards.
Outgoing Calls
These may be made using most telephone cards including BT's Chargecard
plus, NetNet, Dog&Bone, Campuslink, etc.
Example: BT Phonecardplus; this is a dual purpose phone
card which can be used in both public payphones and via other phones.
To use on the College system you would type in the Phonecardplus free
number (0800 169 3089) followed by the PIN number
printed on the card and follow the voice prompts to get your desired
destination number.
Wakeup Calls
You can arrange for a wakeup call by dialling *7 followed by
the time in 24-hour format.
Example:*70730 - 7:30am, *70915 - 9:15am
Assistance
If you need help, dial 1234. This will be answered by the University
Telecomms Section Help Desk.
Faults
If you have a fault on your line, first try plugging in a known working
handset into your phone socket. If the handset is faulty, replacements
can be obtained from the Bursars' Secretary. If there is a line fault
please let the Bursars' Secretary know and she will arrange for it to
be inspected.
