Balliol JCR believes that: 1. It runs contrary to the spirit in which the Arts festival was conceived to set the festival up as a profit making venture. 2. Emphasis should be placed on the availability of grants to the Arts Festival as provided for in part 4.7.7. of the JCR Standing Orders. 3. That the JCR Arts Festival does not need to run as a self-financing concern, although it should not make extravagant losses, and these should be approved by the JCR Treasurer and confirmed at the next OGM subject to a budgeted request. 4. That there is not necessarily anything wrong with the Arts Festival seeking corporate funding, as long as this is not contrary to the JCR’s policy on socially responsible or ethical investment.
