JCR officers are responsible for the day to day running of
the JCR. They are elected at the end of Michaelmas Term, and
serve for 3 terms. Each position is either a committee or
non-committee post. The committee holds meetings weekly on
Mondays at 1:00pm, with the minutes published in the JCR and
a summary sent round the maillists. All committee members
produce an officers report weekly, which are sent round the
maillists or put on the JCR noticeboard for every GM. Non-committee
positions produce a termly officers report.

I am responsible for representing the JCR's views and interests. If you want anything changed or want to know more about the way the JCR, College or the University operates then please get in touch. If you have any problems academically or personally I am always willing to help; email or call me anytime.
My main job is organising Freshers' week. However, during the year I help the President as much as possible. I also attend Exec Committee, Buildings Committee and Health and Safety Committee.
My role as secretary involves: minute-taking, motion-making, photo-copying, poster-producing, photograph-organising, website-working, election-orchestrating, oddjob-undertaking and much much more. Regrettably, unlike the traditional secretary, I do not get to answer the telephone, make cups of tea, or sleep with the boss
I manage the Lindsay Bar, one of the only two student run bars in Oxford. If
you would like more information on any aspect of the bar including hosting
events in it please feel free to contact me.
We are the welfare and housing officers for the JCR committee - feel
free to contact us at any time about anything to do with welfare or housing or
anything that's on your mind.
We're responsible for looking after interviewees during their interview
process, helping people in our college participate in various access schemes
and organising the alternative prospectus. We are the best people to contact
if you have any general enquiries about the admissions process, open days etc
I am responsible for the academic welfare of members of the JCR, by offering advice, running the JCR Bookshop and attending library committee. I also keep the JCR informed about careers and the events run by the university Careers Office.
We represent Balliol JCR views to the student
organisations NUS and OUSU and give feedback to the Balliol community of the
issues raised at their meetings.
We raise money for various charities through events, competitions and sales.
We also know about what goes on in Oxford charity-wise, so if you have ideas of something you want to organize, or want to get involved in some way but don't know where to look, get in touch!
We're here to make sure all overseas students at Balliol are represented at
JCR. We take any concerns they have to the committee and we also try to provide
basic welfare services for any overseas students who may be having trouble with
the College. We also take care of storage of luggage for overseas students over vacations.
This post was merged with the Overseas Officers post in 2008. As the Ethnic
Minorities Officers we're here to represent all students of ethnic minorities and respond to any complaints of harassment or discrimination experienced by students even though these have been extremely rare.
We're here to ensure the women of Balliol are effectively represented and
catered for in all aspects of college and university life, providing a welfare, social, academic and access service. We also support wider campaigns and charities pertaining to women's wellbeing in and out of college.
We're responsible for ensuring that students with disabilities are given every
opportunity to participate fully in College life. We provide an official link
between the JCR members and College authorities.
I work on environmental and ethical issues at a college and university level. I work to ensure that Balliol is an environmentally sustainable college, and that our actions do not support unethical practices. I also represent Balliol on the OUSU Environment & Ethics Committee.
We like to think of ourselves as the moral conscience of the college - if there was ever to be an angry mob raised from the JCR there is no doubt we would be at its head.
