The Drs Who, LGBT Officer, Academic Affairs Officer, Women’s
Officers, Students With Disabilities Officer, Overseas Officers
and Ethnic Minorities Officer are all part of the Welfare
Sub-Committee. You can go to any of them with problems or
questions. While they’ll be most able to help within
their specialist areas, don’t let this restrict your
choice of who you talk to – they are all available for
the needs of all Balliol students. You can find their names,
photos and contact details here.
We’re all slightly more attractive in person than our
photos make us seem.
Peer Supporters
Balliol has seven peer supporters who have all received thirty
hours of comprehensive training in listening skills. We are
always happy to be contacted whatever you want to talk about,
big or small. We won't tell you what to do, or judge you,
we are simply here for if you want to talk to someone in confidence.

College Officers
Douglas Dupree wears a number of hats. He
is the college Chaplain, the Dean and the Student Financial
Aid Officer. The last of these roles will be dealt with on
the Finance page. As part of his other two roles, Doug is
available to assist with personal problems and offer discrete
advice about any personal or work-related issues. Many Balliol
students have found him very helpful and supportive. You can
make an appointment to see him via email (Douglas.dupree@balliol.ox.ac.uk),
by phoning him on (2)77716 or, for urgent problems, knock
on the door of 21.8.
The Junior Dean is Joanne Gale, and can also
offer advice and support. gale@stats.ox.ac.uk
The Harrassment Officers are there for any
student who is experiencing what they think (or damn well
know) to be harassment, bullying or victimisation from anyone
in the college or university. The University has a harassment
policy, which can be found here.
Appointments with the Harrassment Officers can be made via
email: Rosalind.thomas@balliol.ox.ac.uk, sophie.marnette@balliol.ox.ac.uk, dermot.ohare@balliol.ox.ac.uk
The College Nurse is available for advice
on personal matters, particularly those which may be affecting
your health. She is in her surgery (22.1) 0th week to 9th
week, between 9:30 and 11:15 weekdays, except Wednesday when
it’s 1:30 to 3:30. She’s also available at Trinity
weekdays between 11:30 and 1:15. If you cannot come to see
her, ring her on 07881 836803 or (2)77737 during working hours,
email her at alison.nicholls@balliol.ox.ac.uk or leave a note at the lodge and she can visit
you in your college room or house. She can also arrange repeat
prescriptions of oral contraceptive pills, free emergency
contraception, and Doctor's appointments (usually same day)
Your personal tutor is also part of the
college welfare network, and you should feel free to approach
them for advice or support. Of course, if you don’t
get on very well with them, and don’t feel comfortable
speaking to them about what’s troubling you, you’ll
probably prefer to look elsewhere.
