Academic Affairs and Careers

Hello,

I'm George your AcAff officer, and I try to make sure that you have all the academic and careers support you need.

Careers

The thought of life after university can be quite daunting, but there is plenty of information and advice available. Whatever stage you’re at in your career planning, your first port of call is most likely to be the careers service.

What can the Careers Service offer me?

  • Careers Adviser – drop in or bookable
  • Mock interviews
  • CV Clinics
  • Skills workshops
  • Talks and panel sessions
  • Careers Fairs
  • Employer presentations

The OUCS has extensive resources at their office at 56 Banbury Road, with staff able to give guidance when needed. They also produce a weekly vacancy bulletin, which is sent to all finalists. Their website includes a database of a range of different vacancies as well as a 'What's On' page with details of various events and fairs

Also available is the Balliol Alumni Officer, Janet Hazelton. Her office is in the Development Office in St13. Her job is to keep in touch with all Balliol alumni.

If you arrange to have a meeting with her and tell her what career you're interested in, she'll try to find Balliol alumni in that field that are happy to speak with you/give you advice/ maybe give you an internship etc. You can contact her at janet.hazelton@balliol.ox.ac.uk

Academic Affairs

While Oxford can be a great place to live and work, it can also at times be stressful. I am available at any time to talk through worries or issues that any member of the JCR might have to do with their work or subject.  Your individual subject tutor should also be able to help provide advice or support.
