Student Finance
Balliol strives to ensure everyone is financially secure whilst at Balliol. If you are having any financial worries at all - from your student loan arriving late to losing your purse/wallet and with it all your money and cards, to just not having enough money - then contact douglas.dupree@balliol.ox.ac.uk, our Dean, Chaplain and Financial Aid Officer. He is incredible helpful and will do his best to help you out, whatever the situation. He will be able to advise you on Balliol's Hardship Fund (which is extensive) and University Bursaries, which may well be worth looking into. We have an excellent and extensive set of bursaries at Balliol, for many of which YOU DO NOT NEED TO QUALIFY FOR GOVERNMENT FUNDING in order to apply. The two most important currently are: BALLIOL ACCESS BURSARY - For students who, for whatever reason, don't receive government funding, or don't receive very much, and who require more. This is usually applicable for students whose parents don't give them an allowance etc. Bursaries are between £500-£1,000pa and the deadline is12 noon on Friday 24 June 2011 . To apply, get the form from the Chaplain’s Secretary (catherine.willbery@balliol.ox.ac.uk), fill it in and return it to her OR download it from http://www.balliol.ox.ac.uk/current-members/financial-aid, print it and fill it in and return it to Catherine Willbery in the College Office. JUNIOR MAINTENANCE GRANT - *PLEASE NOTE that First Year Undergraduates and Graduates are not eligible to apply for a Junior Maintenance Grant.* If you have already realised that your finances won't cover your expenditure this year (anyone living in Jowett or in a house will probably have this problem) without utterly destroying your overdraft, then apply for this. NB this grant is also about making sure that you don't turn your heating off in order to save money/don't stay at home every night because you can't afford a pint/cinema ticket etc. Again, if you do not qualify for government funding you can still apply. Forms can be downloaded from the Balliol website at http://www.balliol.ox.ac.uk/current-members/financial-aid, and applications must be returned to the Chaplain’s Secretary, Catherine Willbery, in the College Office by 5pm on Friday 21st October 2011. For more information on financial aid in Balliol, please see http://www.balliol.ox.ac.uk/current-members/financial-aid or refer to your Money Matters Handbook, which is also available on the Balliol website at http://www.balliol.ox.ac.uk/sites/default/files/moneymatters.pdf. If you find these confusing, feel free to contact myself (alexander.curran@balliol.ox.ac.uk) or alice.hallewell@balliol.ox.ac.uk or douglas.dupree@balliol.ox.ac.uk
THESE BURSARIES ARE NOT JUST FOR THE PRACTICALLY HOMELESS, SO PLEASE APPLY IF YOU THINK YOU WILL NEED THE MONEY! |
