Women in Balliol
Claire Parry and Susie Deedigan – Women’s OfficersWe're here to ensure the women of Balliol are effectively represented and catered for in all aspects of college and university life. Our role is both politics and welfare related. On the welfare side; we provide things like pregnancy tests, the morning after pill, emergency tampax supplies and more general support. In terms of politics we work towards improving access, addressing the finals gap and making sure women’s’ voices are heard. We also support wider campaigns and charities pertaining to women's politics and wellbeing within the university and the wider world. We are always around for a chat or available to be contacted at jcr.women@balliol.ox.ac.uk
30 Years of women at Balliol 2009-2010
Its a very exciting time to be a woman in Balliol at the moment as we've just celebrated the 30th anniversary of women being accepted to the College! Women were first allowed to study at Balliol in 1979. So far to celebrate 30 years of women at Balliol we’ve worked with the college to organise alumni lunches to bring together women who have attended Balliol from different generations. Our predecessors also succeeded last year in getting a portrait of a woman put up in Hall. Dervorguilla of Galloway was chosen for her pivotal role in founding Balliol College. The 30 years has also been commemorated further by the installation of a sundial in the back quad and the publication of a commemorative booklet.
